Visual AIDS and The New Museum presented a virtual book launch and panel discussion for DUETS: Julie Ault & David Deitcher in Conversation on William Olander (Visual AIDS, 2021).

Moderated by New Museum curator Vivian Crockett, this virtual discussion with Ault, Deitcher, Tom Kalin, and Brian Wallis explored Olander’s life and legacy.

On the occassion of TUNGA: Vê-nus, Luhring Augustine hosted a conversation between the curator of the exhibition, Paulo Venancio Filho, and New Museum curator, Vivian Crockett on January 14, 2023. Video can be found here.

To coincide with the exhibition Hélio Oiticica ( on view Oct 2020 - Jan 2021), Lisson Gallery hosted a special online discussion chaired by art historian, writer and curator Lynn Zelevansky in January 2021.

The panel features additional experts on Oiticica's work including Tanya Barson, Chief Curator, MACBA, Barcelona; Fernando Cocchiarale, art critic and curator, Rio de Janeiro; and Vivian Crockett, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, Dallas Museum of Art.

Watch the full conversation, where the group speaks about a variety of topics, ranging from Oiticica's role in Brazilian culture in the 1960s, and race and class in Brazil; to his time in London, including his seminal Whitechapel show in 1969, as well as the general reception of Latin American art in the UK. Crockett grapples with the influence of black culture on his oeuvre, and the influence of musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

This panel discussion focused on the oeuvre of São Paulo-based artist Sonia Gomes, marking her first exhibition with Pace Gallery. Bringing together curatorial perspectives from both the US and Brazil, the panel examined various aspects of Gomes’s work, from its preoccupation with memory and recovery of feminized crafts to its dialogue with popular and sacred Afro-Brazilian traditions. The first part of the panel includes curators Vivian Crockett, Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro, and Keyna Eleison in a conversation moderated by Michaëla Mohrmann, Associate Curatorial Director at Pace Gallery. A second segment was filmed with curator Fabiana Lopes, who experienced technical difficulties during the original panel.

Jammie Holmes sat down for a discussion during a recent studio visit with Vivian Crockett, the Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art. The two discuss Holmes’ beginnings as a painter, his deep connection to family in Louisiana, and themes that link the artist’s own experiences to his works for Anatomy. They also provide a glimpse into an upcoming collaboration with the announcement of an acquisition of Holmes’ work to the museum’s permanent collection. An online panel discussion on the role Dallas’ cultural institutions need to play in dismantling racism, moderated by artist, poet and cultural organizer Darryl Ratcliff. The panel featured arts professionals and philanthropists including the executive director of The Arts Community Alliance Terry Loftis, public artist J.D. Moore, and Dallas Museum of Art’s Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, Vivian Crockett. Together, the panel considered how the arts community can amend its complicity in systemic racism, while envisioning a more inclusive future for the arts in Dallas.

To celebrate the publication DUETS: Kia LaBeija & Julie Tolentino In Conversation, Kia LaBeija and Julie Tolentino gathered for a dialogue with Vivian Crockett, with readings from the book's essays authored by Lia Gangitano and David Velasco. Crockett read excerpts from Velasco’s essay and shared her own reflections on collaborating with LaBeija and Tolentino over the years. More on this event here. Video documentation can be found here.
